¥2,000 Banknotes, Is It Real ?

Post by : NGDlover

source : zichi.blogspot.com

First time I know about the ¥2,000 note when I see that note owned by friend. I was wonder is it real money or not ?

I keep my curiousity about it, till I found a blog (zichi.blogspot.com)took up the ¥2,000 note. This is really a regular note that is somewhat rare as it is of an unpopular denomination in the market. He said that many Japanese consider the 2000 yen note a novelty as it is the only Japanese denomination in the factor of 2.

Some people found that it cannot be use in some vending machine, What kind of vending machine ? I dont have idea about it. Besides, store and ATM both dont give it out of them, maybe the bank seem to keep that note out of circulation, who knows ?

According to Mr.Zichi, this note was first issued on July 19, 2000 to commemorate the 26th G8 summit in Okinawa and the millennium year as well. Pictured on the front of the note is Shureimon, a famous gate in Naha, Okinawa near the site of the summit. The other side features a scene from the The Tale of Genji and the author Murasaki Shikibu on the lower right corner. The motif of the scene was taken from the 12th century illuminated handscrolls of the novel kept at the Tokugawa Art Museum in Nagoya.
